I’ve just bought a keyboard. This has been my dream since I was a child but the times and finances could barely afford living. I’ve finally purchased my first keyboard 2 days ago, 26 years of wait. I just couldn’t help myself but to go crazy sounding awful lol. This is my first time having an instrument and very first time playing it. I was searching where to begin with. I cant even follow a single pattern going up and down. This made me thought i’m passed my time to learn piano as it takes years to move both hands in different directions but i don’t want to give up. My brother, this video has given me hope. I’ve heard this at least 10 times now, i still can’t play anything but now, i believe if i stay consistent, i can do it. I can’t afford any piano tutors. Sometimes, we might not realize how we are adding values into people life, and your video is one example of it. Looking forward to learn more from you. God bless you, keep doing the good work that you’re doing!! Much respect.

Thanks for the feedback that’s nice to hear. Just remember you’re asking your hands and fingers to move and be controlled in ways they’re not used to yet,it’s like learning to walk again. It’ll be wobbly for a while and you’ll fall over but eventually you can run.

Yea Brother, btw it takes longer to get your fingers moving independently than anybody ever says! In the very beginning, I literally had to use one hand to guide my fingers on the other hand! But within a couple months, no problems - now it's a whole other story. Daily practice works wonders.

Started playing (professional taught) at 8 yrs. Over 40 years now. Believe me, start with counting the music score and properly. Then reading the music score. Practice right hand, then left. Bring them together. Practice daily! Doing scales, triads, is very important too! All the best!

When I was a kid, I became interested in pianos which delighted my aunt. She was so excited that she bought me a piano and wanted me to learn it. She always told me she wanted to hear me play her favorite melody “chariots of fire”, from the piano. Unfortunately after 6 months of lessons, I decided to quit because I was young and stupid. Fast forward to today, she has sadly passed away , and in her funeral chariots of fire was playing. She always wanted me to play it for her. I have just bought an electric piano so I can play with phones on at silly hours.
You are young and by heck you know how to teach.
    Those chord progressions were good.
Practice all four with both hands?
I did not know all the black notes formed the minor pentatonic. That was great to learn and there is some good improvising to be done with the black notes.
You are a breath of fresh air.
Its all very well people saying " get a teacher".

Now I have no idea how to play keyboard really, but I was messing around with the keys/tones ect and managed to teach myself bits of "The final countdown, wonderwall, beat it" granted these will be the absolute basic version of the songs..but it's a start...and had no help ,tutorials or anything whatsoever, So I'm now I'm actually thinking of learning everything from scratch. I will add that I used to be a drummer in many bands for 15years, and can play bits on guitar and bass too..and I get people say if you can play guitar you can play piano /keyboard..let me tell you that's not the case with me,looking at a keyboard and trying to play it is complete alien to me.

I purchased an electric piano. It sat in my office for nearly a year… Messing around here and there. Hardly learning. I had the best intentions… I finally told myself that I purchased this piano for a reason, not to become the most brilliant piano player… but to at the very least learn the chords and such and have fun along the way. Anything worth while takes time, commitment, and consistency, I suppose. So I said enough is enough and went to RUclips. Landed here and now I feel a motivation and a passion now. My wife and I were making up songs with the chords you provided in this song and even she was impressed! Lol. So, long story short, thank you for the content. And to anyone that’s been putting this on the back burner waiting for inspiration or motivation… don’t. Just start doing it and the other will follow.
    Thanks again!

I fear you may have sent me on an instrumental treasure hunt. I started at 8 years old laying keyboard for three years and then stopped, rediscovering my love of music in my 20s with the guitar. Love it because it’s so nuanced and versatile. The piano would make a fantastic ear training and accompaniment tool, not to mention a thing to do when guitar gets wearing... not that it has managed that yet. But at times it does disturb my housemate. Even with a headset an electric guitar still makes noise. I want a keyboard. Now. Much of that basic music theory and keyboard layout knowledge is still there. Ready and waiting. So thanks man.

Hey @Piano from scratch I am 44 years old and just decided I would learn, so I dug out my daughters old 61 keyboard and plugged it in.... not too worried about sound at the moment. Followed a few tutorials and managed to learn a good deal of christmas lights by coldplay and now learning Paradise by coldplay too.... its tough going but I am stubborn.
This tutorial has really helped as I didn't want to get into bad habits and you deliver a very calm way of emphasising the importance of form and getting the basics right. Thank you for that! I feel that the exercises of just learning to play hands together and getting form correct has already accelerated my learning. Good man. We thank you.

this beginner lesson/session is amazing. I cant believe it only has 3000 views. this helped me get a grip of basic technique (hand fingers and coordination) and the keyboard as an instrument so much more than any of the other "beginner" lessons where they straight up just jump into random chord progressions without any explanations.
you give simple instructions and give good amount of freedom to get used to playing. Just enough amount of basic tips to get started and feel comfortable.
    Absolutely love it!

I also think that sticking to one source of information doesnt really suit me. I was beginning to lose interest and needed something to get me away from just learning cheesy tunes. This seems much better. I'm now planning on following your videos. Is there a particular order you'd recommend?

I tried to learn a couple years ago, but got bored after about a week. I think because I was watching videos of teachers that were quite boring, so it made me get bored. They were definitely not teaching chords on day one. Your style of teaching is quite captivating. If I knew I could have learnt these simple things on day one, I probably would have stuck with it longer. This video made me feel an element of excitement again. I'm going to give it another shot. Thank you.

Thank you so much, I am loving my new hobby. Took my son to piano when he was young (usually dragged by his hair, lol) - He now loves playing, so it was worth it! I have always loved the gentle sound of the piano - Einaudi being one of my faves. Thank you so much for your kindness putting these fab lessons together. I haven't really touched a piano in almost a decade when I took a class in music reading in college. I remember time and how/why middle c is and how it relates to sheet music, also very vague memories of chords and how each chord represents an emotion. Major chords being triumphant/happy and as such most Christmas music is written in using major chords, minor being sad, I forgot half diminished amd fully diminished.. and augmented being.. well spacy... used in alot of sci-fi musical scores. Beyond that I know next to nothing about actually playing the piano, posture and the fact that your going slow and covering each chord for awhile with different hand positions is really helping!!

Amazing work honestly, I don't play piano (yet) but I'm going to start learning soon. I've been scouring the internet trying to collect good sources for learning, and I feel like your longer and more complete videos are a gold mine in that regard. Most other videos I find on RUclips (from other channels) are unclear, awkward or are just incomplete. I feel like you nailed the 'piano teaching in video' format. Keep the format as is and expand to fully fledged courses, etc. I think you could make bank of that alone, haha.
I think a lot of people are looking to learn piano by themself due to piano lessons being too expensive, or just 'too much effort', or other reasons (e.g. COVID). One major roadblock for learning piano by yourself (at least in the beginning) is finding good and complete sources to learn from. I know there is the Alfred's basic book out there but a book by itself won't cut it.
If you keep on providing useful material for (beginner, lower level) people who are looking to learn, make it accessible, as complete as possible while also making it concise like this video, I think it could help you grow your business/your channel quite significantly. Maybe you should consider releasing a lengthy course that tries to talk about all important topics.
Whatever you do, keep it up, I want to be able to keep using your videos in the future as well!
PS: The Patreon link in the description of this video redirects to a dead link, (messed up characters in the URL). I quickly checked your newer videos and it seemed fine there, so probably only this video.

I just bought a small keyboard from a local Uber driver, random I know, and I’ve always wanted to learn how to play piano. I’m 46 now, but when I was 10 I used to play clarinet though I don’t remember anything. I tried a couple other videos first that were recommended but they spent no time with learning where the notes were in respect to getting comfortable playing those notes with a specific fingers and I was totally lost with those videos. However, your video has made it that I feel not only comfortable at the pace you work but I actually feel like I’m learning something! I know it’s gonna take a long time to get to where I want to be, able to play as an outlet of creativity, and I’m very grateful for your videos and I know will help me build the foundations I need. Anybody got recommendations for a good sewing channel too?
