| To start off, I'm an anime fan who isn't too much well-versed or vastly experienced as an anime watcher, but despite that, I'm someone who is really passionate & engrossed when it comes to anime in general, which is why despite my somewhat lack of experience I still consider myself to be a weeb. I've mostly gotten into mainstream anime since late 2018, from when I gradually started picking one interest after another in anime, leading to my interests peaking in this medium. I'm currently looking to just explore the huge world of anime even more and more, because I've discovered it well enough that watching anime is one of those things that brings me the most joy. I'm a big lover of action/adventure anime, with especially a big lean towards battle-shounen, though sometimes I also do enjoy intense psychological thrillers involving strong tension & emotional weight or anime that have a lot of genuine depth in storyline & characterization. |
| It’s Boku no Pico with a high animation budget. This is not some sort of figure of speech, but a 100% factual statement. Boku no Pico and Mushoku Tensei are the same exact identical show, with only the superficial flavor difference - one is a hentai about fucking little boys, the other is a hentai about fucking little girls. You can call the latter a spiritual successor to the former. Normally there is no point in reviewing hentai the way one reviews regular anime because it operates on an entirely different logic. The point of hentai is to sexually stimulate the audience with audiovisual material, and things like coherent story, plot, or characters (that are valued in normal anime) get in the way of that - and so hentai does away with them. There is a tacit understanding of that fact between the hentai makers and the audience - you won’t see (sane) reviewers criticizing Boku no Pico that bananas are too squishy to realistically be used as dildos, or that Pico is a douchebag because he never apologized for dropping that ice cream, or that it’s bad writing to never explain who the hell CoCo even is. Likewise, I see no point in criticizing various equally contrived developments in Mushoku Tensei. If there is a scene of a six-year-old girl getting flustered and ashamed when the MC forcefully strips her - I don’t have to point out that it’s not how six-year-olds work, as I have a tacit understanding that the author just wanted to beat his meat to the idea of a six-year-old being aware of her sexuality, and hey, you gotta beat your meat to something. So, the point of this review is slightly different - I wanted to highlight an interesting miscommunication phenomenon. You see, there is a species of superficially human-shaped “people” to whom the words “good anime” mean “anime with good-looking animation.” That’s not a meaningless criterion, as you can indeed compare animation quality between different shows and draw conclusions about which one has it good and which one has it bad. Nonetheless, it creates a miscommunication problem, as the actual human people use the same words “good anime” with an entirely different meaning - something like anime with a good story, plot, characters, direction, voice acting, etc. Both people and “people” use the same language to talk about entirely different concepts, and furthermore, both use the same tools such as the MAL scoring system to assign the same symbolic representation to their entirely different value judgments. I hope this clears the confusion some people might have regarding why they are seeing Boku no Pico 2.0 described with certain words or assigned certain numerical scores that make no sense. Anyway, 1/10 because if you use the criteria meant to evaluate normal anime for the evaluation of hentai, you have to admit that hentai is not very good. |
