If it's an actual scene, then Nora pulls MC aside at the end of class. She says she wants to have a serious talk about their relationship, and he should come over tonight/this weekend. I too was a only child, but due to complicatd family reasons grew up very close to my cousin, we are the same age.
If families are "problematic" kids tend to create different bonds compared to more "normal" situations.
I always felt protective of my cousing and have to admit was the sme the other way around, to this day I can count on her looking after my very old mom while I'm abroad for longer periods, and she was the one who "saved me" from getting stuck in one of those abusive relationships.
