Lyrics:
[Intro: Scarface + (friend)]
(So what you gonna do when you get outta here cat daddy?)
I don't know dawg. I'm just trying to live it one day at a time, ya know?
(I hear you talkin' man, live it one day at a time...)
(It ain't nothing but a thang though, bro)
Yeah I hear you fool...
Well let me get up outta here, my ride out here waitin' for me
(Alright cat daddy, take it easy baby)
You stay up fool
(Peace)
[Verse 1: Scarface]
He greets his father with his hands out
Rehabilitated slightly, but glad to be the man's child
The world is different since he's seen it last
Out of jail, been seven years and he's happy that he's free at last
All he had was his mother's letters
Now he's mobile and he's gotta make a change and make it for the better
But he's black so he's got one strike against him
And he's young, plus he came up in the system
But he's smart and he's finally making eighteen
And his goal's to get on top and try to stay clean
So he's calling up his homie who done came up
Livin' lavish, now they dealin' with the same stuff
And had that attitude that who he was was worth land
And with that fucked up attitude he killed his first man
Now it's different, he done did dirt
And realized killin' men meant comin' up but it still hurt
And can't nobody change this
It's 1994 and we up against the same shit
I never understood why
I could never see a man cry 'til I seen a man die
[Verse 2: Scarface]
Imagine life at it's full peak
Then imagine lying dead in the arms of your enemy
Imagine peace on this Earth when there's no grief
Imagine grief on this Earth when there's no peace
Everybody's got a different way of endin' it
And when your number comes for souls, then they send it in
Now your time has arrived for your final test
I see the fear in your eyes and hear your final breath
How much longer will it be 'til it's all done?
Total darkness at ease be at all one
I watch him die and when he dies let us celebrate
You took his life, but your memory you'll never take
You'll be headed to another place
And the life you used to live will reflect in your mother's face
I still gotta wonder why
I never seen a man cry 'til I seen a man die
[Verse 3: Scarface]
I hear you breathin' but your heart no longer sounds strong
But you kinda scared of dying so you hold on
And you keep on blacking out and your pulse is low
Stop trying to fight the reaper, just relax and let it go
Because there's no way you can fight it though you'll still try
And you can try it 'til you fight it but you'll still die
Your spirits leave your body and your mind clears
The rigor mortis starts to set, now you outta here
You start your journey into outer space
You see yourself in the light but you're still feeling outta place
So you standing in the tunnel of eternal life
And you see the ones you never learn to love in life
Make the choice, let it go if you can back it up
If you ain't at peace with God you need to patch it up
But if you ready, close your eyes and we can set it free
Here lies a man not scared to die, may he rest in peace
I still got to wonder why
I never seen a man cry 'til I seen that man die

It’s no joke seeing a man or woman take their last breath. Life is so damn short, live every day like it’s your last
Yea I watched my pops take his last breath but I knew he was relief from pain
@Skibbidypat78 Amen 🙏
My favorite song of all time, back in 2022, I've lost my brother from heart disease and watch them revived, but it too late . My brother's favorite Geto Boys song was "6 feet Deep", and every time I hear it I cried, so yeah live your life like it's your last.
❤
“You’ll be headed to another place, and the life you used to live will reflect in your mother’s face” still the coldest bar in rap history. Heavier than heavy metal
Yeah
🥶
that is hard - thanks for pointing it out amigo
That's one of the realest statement I ever heard!!!! What about Now I Feel Ya???? That bar we living in a concentration set, and everyday we face 2 face with death...I seen my homies go and come and Judgement Day is just something we can't run from. I know my number coming up..... What about the line in this song If You ain't at peace with God you to patch it up.....Face is cold.... that's hella true we think we go be here forever.....
Man...this song actually makes me cry
This man does not simply rhyme. He paints vivid illustrations with words…

Scarface shut it down with his Tiny Desk performance. One of the greatest to ever do it!!
On god
Hell yea he did!
Super facts
That's what brought me back to this music video. One of my favorite tiny desk performances

My fiance died in a car crash 2 weeks before our wedding in 1993... we were both so young.... then 1994 came and this song came out... it was hard to listen to at first... I changed the radio every time it came on... then one day I let it play and I let the tears flow harder than ever... Now it's one of my favorite songs... I still get chills today when I here it and think of those dark days in the 90s.

Everytime I listen to this song I gotta run it back twice....... one of the best songs in rap history
Just talking about what a great year '94 was in rap history elsewhere and this was the first song that came flooding back, the last verse is straight poetry.
@@MichaelJP You're right 92-96 was the golden era of Hip Hop. 93 was definitely the peak from NY to LA.

I remember being 14 when this album dropped. I lost one of my closest homes that summer. Washing the blood off my hands and face in the upstairs bathroom of my childhood home. 14 is too young to ever go through something like that. He caught a bullet to the chest while two of us walked home from park. We just got caught between drive-by and it's target. Nothing was ever the same after that.
This song is synonymous with my understanding of death. Looking back it, was something that kinda helped me process it all but goddamn, 25 years later at 9:03 pm, on 6/13/21, I'm driving back home from my cabin and "random' strikes again. Instantly transported back to them days and as the sun sets here, casting its orange and crimson blanketed hue across the sky, holding the small puffy clouds in place, I've got tears absolutely ripping down my face.
Time goes on and heals most wounds but some are so deep that they never go away. They scar and leave their mark, sometimes still painful but enough to go on. Music is literally the most powerful magic humans have figured out thus for.
I was 13. It stuck me quick. And when I've heard it over the years it was like it never left.
@@illblahzayill2274 and what part was made up? I didn't ask for you to read my story. Hell, I really don't even give a shit whether it's believed by someone like you, or not. I am curious though, what part is made up in your eyes? Short of finding the story in some paper archive or getting someone close to verify, nothing will be resolved. So, what exactly is your position or motive beyond being a dick head? Wasn't crying to you for up likes, instead telling a personal story that coincides with an incredible song and moment in life. Your feel and need to interject shows nothing more than an inability to empathize and an even bigger show of narcissism and apathetic tendency. Best of luck bro... world must look pretty bleak when you only believe what you see or declare as truth.
@@SemiDivineOne Don't pay them any attention. Some people dont realize a sad and striking story can happen in real life too, in fact most songs are based on real life events.
Also, I think dude was just mad he can't be as articulate and expressive as you're, let a lone form a sentence.
Still you can't rationalize peoples odd comments and behaviors 🤷🏾♀️

Incomparable storytelling ability. This is 'Face at his finest.
dance with the devil by immortal technique just as good (in my opinion)
Hero 902 (Prolly only did a month for minor offenses :D) Both of their lyrics are on par, but that Scarface flow...nobody can do it like him without sounding corny
For real, this is the kinda music I wish was still being made instead of fucking mumble rap, I mean good music is still being made but now there are so damn many mumble rappers now that they outnumber the really good and classic rappers, oh well whatever nevermind

This was my dad’s favorite song😢 he got taken off life support this morning from a drug overdose that was laced with fentanyl. Lost him at only 22 years old. This song will live on forever with me❤

The last verse is like he is telling a dying man to let go of his mortal soul and give in to the spirit.
TODAY'S GENERATION WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW DOPE HIP HOP WAS IN THE 1990'S.✌✌✌✌✌

I swear, Scarface is the Edgar Allan Poe of Hip Hop.
*2017 Edit: Dang y'all thanks for the love! 💖 Also the reason I compare Edgar Allan Poe to Scarface is that the two are skillful at forming a narrative that at first glance sounds very dark and morbid (take into account Poe's "The Raven" "A Tell Tale Heart" and more in relation to Scarface's "Seen A Man Die" "One Minute to Pray and One Second to Die", and Geto Boys' "My Mind's Playing Tricks On Me" ; they have reoccurring images of death and mental illness). And also even though the delivery and approach of words are dark, there's a lesson or a message that we can all take from. I never meant to put them against each other based on fame and accolades. Just making a connection based off of context.

A true storyteller...deep meaning behind these songs. Well spoken evey word understandable, no mumbling. Makes a person think on their life choices. Music with actual meaning, unlike the fluff out there today.
